Cedar Lakes , Jackson County , West Virginia
The pending shutdown of a popular conference center has sparked outrage.
People in Jackson County were rallying Thursday for Cedar Lakes.
As of now, Cedar Lakes will shut down, due to budget cuts from the state.
But hundreds came together for a rally to show politicians and people elsewhere how vital they feel the center is to their community.
The West Virginia Department of Education owns Cedar Lakes. Like other agencies, they need to cut 7.5 percent of their budget. The conference center is set to be axed.
The community rallied, along with some politicians to help highlight how the conference center serves almost 200,000 people.
Chris Davis said seeing it go would be especially emotional.
"A lot of sadness,” he said. “A lot of anger."
Davis, along with hundreds of other kids, attends Mountaineer Spina Bifida Camp. Cedar Lakes is handicapped accessible. For them, this is huge.
As of now, they hope a community of people, along with their elected officials can save the camp.
If Cedar Lakes is forced to shut down, 35 full-time employees will be laid off.
