Friday marked the fourth anniversary of the death of a Charleston police office in the line of duty.
Jerry Jones, 27, was killed by friendly fire, following a high speed police chase on Sept. 13, 2009. The suspect in the pursuit, Brian Scott Good, 31, was also shot and killed in the incident.
The incident led to the passage of The Jerry Jones Act in the West Virginia Legislature, which was signed into law by Gov. Joe Manchin. The act increases penalties for those who flee police in a case where an officer is killed.
A wreath was laid at the Charleston police memorial Friday in memory of Jones.
