A man who was hit by a tractor-trailer early Wednesday is expected to be OK, Cpl. Brian Humphreys of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office said.
The accident happened about 3 a.m. in the 3100 block of Dupont Avenue in Dupont City, near Belle.
Investigators said the semi was believed to be traveling between 25 mph and 35 mph. The driver of the semi told deputies that he saw the pedestrian walking east in the westbound lane and that the pedestrian turned his head and saw the approaching truck.
The driver said when he passed the pedestrian, something ran in front of his truck and was struck, so he stopped the semi and began searching the area with a flashlight and found the pedestrian in a roadside ditch.
The pedestrian, whose name has not been released, was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital for evaluation and treatment of non-life threatening injuries, Humphreys said.
Deputy J. Coulter and Sgt. K. White gathered evidence from the scene of the crash and said that the driver of the semi did not show signs of drug or alcohol use. As a precaution, they gave the driver a preliminary breath test that revealed his blood alcohol content was normal.
Dupont Avenue was closed for about two hours while deputies tried to reconstruct the scene.
