West Virginia State Police canceled a Silver Alert Tuesday for a West Virginia teen who had been missing since the weekend.
Shawna Way, 14, turned herself into law enforcement Tuesday afternoon, West Virginia State Police Sgt. Michael Baylous said.
Way had last been seen on Sunday near the Briarview Apartments.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the West Virginia State Police, the West Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations, the West Virginia State Police Crimes Against Children Unit, the Taylor County Sheriff's Department the Harrison County Sheriff's Department, the Grafton City Police Department and numerous other surrounding state, county, and local law enforcement agencies actively worked together in the effort to locate her, Baylous said.
Details of Way's disappearance are not being released yet, but more information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
Baylous said that it is believed that social media played a role in her disappearance.
West Virginia State Police have issued a Silver Alert for a missing Taylor County teenager.
Shawna Way, 14, is mentally impaired and was last seen near the Briarview Apartments on Sunday, West Virginia State Police Sgt. Michael Baylous said. Way is about 5 feet 2 inches tall and 120 pounds with brown eyes, blond hair and light skin tone. She was last seen wearing a yellow tie dyed shirt, pink and white shorts and sandals with pink straps.
