A shooting investigation leads to several drug charges.
Early this morning, two men dropped off Ladarean Mixon, 23, at CAMC's emergency room with a gunshot wound. After he was admitted, police say the pair--Lajaun Flood and Kalvon Casdorph--ran off and threw bags of pills onto the hospital awning.
Police later caught up with the two. Flood, of Detroit, and Casdorph, of Charleston, are charged with drug possession.
As the victim, Ladarean Mixon was wheeled into the ER, a large amount of heroin fell out of his pocket. So he's now charged with felony drug possession.
Police say Mixon accidentally shot himself in the testicle while inside a vehicle late last night. When officers went to question him, he gave them a series of false names. Fingerprints ultimately revealed his true identity. Mixon has an outstanding warrant from Detroit, Michigan on a parole violation. He'll eventually be extradited back there. But Charleston Police aren't done with Mixon yet though.
"We're glad to get these drugs off the street, and we're glad we were able to identify this individual, because he's a possible person of interest in another shooting," said Lt. Steve Cooper with Charleston Police.
At last check, Mixon was still in the hospital, but is expect to be sent to magistrate court on his drug charges soon. The other two suspects in the case are being held in the South Central Regional Jail.
Charleston Police say two other women questioned in connection with Mixon's shooting will be arrested and charge with obstruction for lying to police during the investigation.
Charleston police said an incident in which a man arrived at a hospital with a gunshot wound has turned into a drug investigation in which the man and the two people who brought him there face charges.
Ladarean Duran Mixon of Detroit came into a Charleston hospital about 4 a.m. Tuesday with a gunshot wound, police said. They said he accidentally shot himself in the groin while he was in a vehicle. Police said he is being treated at the hospital and will be charged with heroin possession because drugs were found on him, police said. He also is a person of interest in a shooting, police said.
Two men who brought him to the hospital and then left, Lajaun Flood of Detroit and Kalvon Casdorph of Charleston, have been charged with drug possession because they allegedly threw pills up onto the awning of the emergency room as they left the hospital, police said.
Flood and Casdorph were being held in the South Central Regional Jail.
Meanwhile, two women whose names have not been released will face obstruction charges in the case because they gave false information to officers who were conducting the investigation, police said.
Police said Mixon gave police a number of aliases before they determined his real name. He was wanted on an outstanding warrant for a parole violation from Detroit. Police said he also has a criminal history with arrests for drugs, home invasions and robbery.
Charleston police have released the name of the man who was injured during an early morning shooting Tuesday.
Omarion Cooper, 24, Detroit was shot and taken to a Charleston hospital about 4 a.m., Sgt. Tony Hazelett with Charleston Police said.
Cooper received non-life threatening injuries. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident and the investigation continues.
A man was in the hospital after he was shot Tuesday.
Charleston police said the man was dropped off by two other men at Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital about 4 a.m. Police said after they dropped off the victim, the two men took off running. Police were able to catch up with them a short time later, and they are being questioned.
Police said the victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Police don't know where the shooting happened and said it remains under investigation.
