Emotional shock waves are still being felt at the Mingo County Courthouse.
The tension that built ahead of the federal charges crippled criminal prosecutions.
"It's been extremely difficult,” County Prosecuting Attorney Michael Sparks said. “Not a bright day for Mingo County."
The West Virginia Supreme Court suspended Mingo County Circuit Judge Michael Thornsbury and his law license after his federal indictment. It sent two judges to deal with his cases. No hearings were held Friday, but newly assigned Judge John Cummings was at work behind closed doors, as the courthouse sought normalcy.
