It will be a weekend full of sports in the capital city as two successful sporting events take place.
SportsFEST and WV Games are slotted to take place together for the first time. The events will happen at Magic Island Friday through Sunday, according to a news release from the Charleston West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau.
SportsFEST includes the UWP-IJSBA Jet Ski Hyrdo Turf competition and the EVP Pro Am Beach Championship.
WV Games is the largest collection of sanctioned sporting events in the Mountain State, including events such as a cornhole tournament, zumbathon, wrestling and Jiu Jitsu. More than 400 professional athletes are expected to compete this weekend.
Locals are invited to take part in the excitement by registering for some of the competitions, the release said. Many of the competitions give participants a chance to win cash and bragging rights while going up against professional athletes.
Jet Ski races will kick-off the weekend events at 1 p.m. Friday on Magic Island. Following those races, the YMCA and Charleston Visitors Bureau will host beach volleyball tournaments until 8 p.m.
Live entertainment will be provided throughout the weekend, including Chaz Humley & the Effects, followed by Edwin McCain at Live on the Levee beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday. More on that concert here
Then on Saturday and Sunday, the Booze Mountaineers will provide music from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. And the Charleston Funeral Parade is set for Saturday from 6-8 p.m. on Capitol Street in Charleston.
