School starts next week for a lot kids in our area, and back to school shopping was in full swing this weekend.
However, the sluggish economy is forcing some parents to be extra thrifty this year.
It was a big day at the Charleston Town Center, as many kids with their parents were getting last minute school supplies and new outfits.
Kanawha County students return to school Friday, making this the last weekend for families to get kids ready.
“I was dreading it with three teenage girls,” Sonya Hight of Charleston said. “They love to shop. I don't like to, but it wasn't that bad.”
It wasn't that bad because Hight preplanned and watched how much she spent at the mall.
“A lot of the stores are giving cards where you get their app and then you scan it,” she said. “We got the pair that was $20. We actually get $10 off. So, $10 dollars, can't beat that.”
Aside from making lists and downloading apps for coupons, you can also go online and check for deals before you even head out to shop.
“I get text and emails for deals,” Deanna Schindler of Charleston said. “Look for clearance clothes, stuff like that, and do the best we can.
With these tips, even the kids were learning a thing or two about finding a bargain.
“This was on a rack, originally $50 dollars, got it for $10,” Kelsey Hight said.
