A mother is pleading for information in her daughter's mysterious disappearance.
For eight long years, Wilma Pringle had struggled with the same question: What happened to her daughter Jennifer Belt?
"I just think she's gone," Pringle said.
Belt was last seen in February 2005 at her mother's home near Ivydale in Clay County. She asked her mom to take care of her son, Lucas, while she went to Widen and said she'd be right back. Pringle never saw her daughter again.
"It's hard not to think about it and, just sit down and cry every day," she said.
Belt's vehicle was found here in the Widen area of Clay County not long after she went missing. Her truck was abandoned on the side of the road, with her keys on the dashboard, but no clues were found as to where she might be.
Belt was apparently going through a difficult divorce at the time of her disappearance, and had recently signed a protective order. Pringle believes not enough attention was given to the investigation in the early stages, and now she fears the case has gone cold.
"More could have been done, if they would have put forth the effort to have done it," she said.
Her promise now is that she won't give up the fight for justice for Belt, and is pleading for anyone with information to do the right thing.
"I just want to know what happened to her,” she said. “It would be some piece of mind and some closure for me."
Anyone with information that could lead police in the right direction is asked to call the Clay County detachment of State Police at 304-587-2201.
