A former Nitro wrestling champion was arrested after police said he was naked and jumping on vehicles and assaulted an officer who responded to the scene.
Seth Montgomery Easter, 23, of Nitro was charged Wednesday with battery of an officer, according to a criminal complaint filed in Cabell County Magistrate Court.
Cabell County 911 dispatchers had received multiple calls that a white male was running naked through traffic, jumping on vehicles and attempting to enter vehicles in the 500 block of West Pea Ridge. One female said that the man had entered her vehicle.
When a deputy arrived on the scene, he said, he saw Easter jumping on a vehicle and was able to detain him briefly. When a state trooper arrived to provide assistance, he said, Easter charged him with his fist drawn back and struck him. The trooper said he then took Easter to the ground and tried to detain him.
Deputies said Easter escaped and fled on foot. They caught up to him and following another altercation, were able to detain him.
Deputies said Easter admitted to using acid and bath salts and to jumping on vehicles naked.
According to Cornell University's athletics website, he was a freshman wrestler on the 2008-2009 university squad. The website said Easter is a four-time West Virginia state champion and served as his wrestling team's captain for two seasons. He also was a four-time letter winner in cross country and a three-time letter winner in track. Easter was named captain for his cross-country team, and he was a member of the National Honor Society.
