Kanawha County deputies are investigating an incident in which a woman who had been shot in the head with an air-style rifle walked into a Charleston hospital.
Brittany Huddleston, 23, of St. Albans came into Charleston Area Medical Center Memorial Hospital’s emergency room about Monday night with a small wound to the back of her head, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded and Huddleston told them she was outside tending to her young child at the Riverfront Mobile Home Park in St. Albans when she felt a sudden impact to back of her head. She first thought a rock had somehow struck her. Huddleston then discovered her head was bleeding and a small object was lodged under the skin.
Family members drove her to the CAMC Memorial’s emergency room, where the object was removed and appeared consistent with a pellet from an air-style rifle.
The victim did not hear gunshots or other pellets striking close to her or her 6-year-old son. The investigation is ongoing and now being conducted by the Kanawha Bureau of Investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kanawha Bureau of Investigation at 304-357-0169 and speak with Detective B.K. Carper.
