West Virginia Supreme Court Justice Robin Davis said Wednesday that she will not run in 2014 for the Senate seat being vacated by U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller.
Davis made the announcement on “Talkline,” which runs on WV MetroNews stations.
Davis was re-elected to a second 12-year term on the court in 2012.
Republican U.S. Rep. Shelley Moore Capito has announced her plans to seek the seat. Analysts, such as the New York Times’ Nate Silver, consider Capito an early frontrunner for the Senate seat. Democrats are seeking a candidate with name recognition to run for the seat.
David Wamsley of Wood County and Sheirl Fletcher of Monongalia County have filed to run for the seat on the Democratic side. Capito will face Scott “Cody” Regan of Cabell County in the Republican primary. Phil Hudok of Raleigh County plans to run as a Constitution Party candidate. Martin Staunton of Raleigh County is running as a non-partisan candidate.
