Cunard, Fayette County , West Virginia
A large party that gathered in Fayette County after word was spread though social media ended with several citations when the crowd became unruly, the sheriff’s department said.
Fayette 911 received a report about midnight Sunday about a large, unruly party in an open field near the Cunard area, according to a news release from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department.
When deputies arrived, they found 300 to 400 people in the area. There was DJ set up with an elaborate sound system, and there was a substantial amount of alcohol at the scene. Several individuals fled into the woods when they saw the officers, the release said.
Six deputy sheriffs, including two off-duty officers, heard the call and responded. Several people were cited for various misdemeanor offenses, including alcohol and controlled substances violations. Three vehicles were towed from the scene. The release said juveniles found at the party were released to parents or other responsible adults who were called to the scene.
People who attended the event traveled from throughout Southern West Virginia to gather. Out-state-residents, including people from Virginia, Tennessee and Texas, also were there.
