“American Idol” fans are in for a treat Friday when season eight winner Kris Allen takes the stage at Haddad Riverfront Park in Charleston.
Allen’s Idol coronation song, “No Boundaries” and his version of “Heartless” both charted within the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100. Allen’s post-Idol self-titled album was released on Nov. 17, 2009, through 19 Recordings and Jive Records. The album debuted at No. 11 on the U.S. Billboard 200. The album’s lead single, “Live Like We’re Dying,” was released Sept. 21, 2009, and peaked at No. 18 in the U.S. with combined sales of more than 1.7 million.
As the headliner for Live on the Levee, Allen is expected to take the stage at about 7:45 p.m. The opening act, the Ryan Kennedy Trio, gets things started at about 6:30 p.m. Fireworks also will be featured at about 9:30 p.m.
Live on the Levee is an outdoor concert series presented by the city of Charleston and is made possible by sponsorship and private donations.
Profits from a 50/50 raffle are drawn to help raise money for a group of charities supported by the event. This year’s charities are Covenant House, the Religious Coalition for Community Renewal, the YWCA of Charleston, the Roark-Sullivan Lifeway Center and Day mark.
