Fayetteville , West Virginia
With more than 30,000 Boy Scouts, and thousands more staff members, volunteers and family members expected to attend the 2013 National Scout Jamboree, Fayette County communities like Fayetteville are bracing for an influx of visitors.
"I think it's going to be huge," Brian Wearne of Orlando, Fla., said. "I think it's a positive for the scouts and the values that they show. I've already spent some money on some coal sculpture and things for my family back home."
Fayetteville's small business have been preparing for the jamboree for the past several weeks. However, because this is the first time for the event in West Virginia it's difficult to know exactly what to expect.
"We know what has happened at other places," Sally Kiner, of the Fayetteville Convention and Visitors Bureau, said. "But as far as how that is going to impact the traffic that comes through our town, our visitors center and through our retail establishments I think it's just a wait and see thing."
The Secret Sandwich Society is one of Fayetteville's many eateries, which are hoping for more traffic as a result of the jamboree. The restaurant's owner said he has made several moves to get ready.
"I bought some more freezers for extra storage space," Lewis Rhinehart, the owner of the Secret Sandwich Shop, said. "I've staffed up. We're scheduling a lot more heavier with a lot more people on the clock at one time, just trying to get ready."
The 2013 National Scout Jamboree gets underway on July 16 at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in Fayette County.
