A settlement agreement reached Tuesday between West Virginia American Water and the Public Service Commission Consumer Advocate Division recommends a more than $8.1 million annual water revenue increase for customers statewide – a 7 percent increase.
If accepted as proposed, the average residential water bill based on 3,135 gallons would change from $39.11 to $41.88, according to a news release from the water company.
Meanwhile, the settlement also calls for a $337,412 annual sewer revenue increase for the company’s wastewater system in Fayetteville, which would be a 14 percent increase if allocated as proposed, the company said. If accepted as proposed, this would change the average Fayetteville residential sewer bill from $35.78 to $40.92.
As part of the agreement, the company would not file another general rate case for water or wastewater prior to Jan. 1, 2015.
The commission has until Oct. 11, 2013, to rule on the case.
Customers of West Virginia American could see an increase in their bills.
West Virginia American Water has requested that the public service commission grant the company a 21 percent rate increase and could announce an agreement Tuesday.
If it passes, the increase would mean customers who use 4,500 gallons of water a month would see their bill go up about $10.50.
The increase would affect 250,000 families in West Virginia.
