The University of Charleston School of Pharmacy is gearing up for a big Boy Scouts jamboree.
The school's pharmaceutical team tested out its interactive environment Monday before unveiling it at next week's 10-day jamboree in Mount Hope.
Students from the school hope green slim made to resemble mucus will get thousands of Boy Scouts excited about pursuing a career in pharmacy and health sciences.
Team members said it's more than just making mucus. They said it's about teaching 50,000 scouts about compounding techniques, showing them what a person with asthma goes through when mucus overtakes their lungs.
Volunteers also got to use an oxygen inhaler and an Epipen on a breathing, blinking, interactive dummy designed to simulate an asthma attack or bee sting.
Team members said learning about allergies and asthma is necessary to the scouts, who need to know how to treat fellow scouts suffering from those health problems.
This is the first year the school will participate in the national jamboree, which starts July 17. Lego and NASA are among other organizations expected to attend.
