Gauley Bridge , West Virginia
The National Weather Service is warning campers, boaters and rafters to be careful in and along the New River July 4 and 5. It will be flowing above its normal levels today and Friday.
Heavier rain over the headwaters will raise it in the Gorge in Fayette County and the section that borders Raleigh County. It's about six feet higher than normal in Thurmond.
While it's not flooding, the NWS warns people with holiday activities planned along the river to be careful. The weather service says don't underestimate the power of flowing water.
All that water will be headed down the Kanawha River. The Kanawha forms at Gauley Bridge where the New and Gauley rivers meet.
