With July Fourth approaching, a lot of people will be celebrating by setting off fireworks. But remember they can be dangerous, even deadly.
There is a long list of injuries that fireworks can cause: burns, contusions, lacerations and foreign objects in the eye.
Too often, revelers forget that fireworks are dangerous explosives, not toys.
Thousands of people go to hospitals and emergency rooms each year, and fireworks cause millions of dollars in fire losses annually.
Here are some suggestions if you plan on setting off your own fireworks:
- Never let little children play with them.
- Always have an adult supervising.
- Only use legal fireworks.
- Wear eye protection and watch from a safe distance.
- Have a cell phone ready in case you need to call 911.
