The Boyd County Public Library kicked off a new program to help people who live in the Ashland area see what is going on in their community.
Library workers kicked off a new program called "Check Out Your Community" with a block party at their main branch Monday evening. The program is designed to introduce library card holders to various actives and organizations that they might not know about in their neighborhood.
Some of the items that will be available for checkout can be used at Ashland's Central Park, just across from the library's main branch. Items include volleyballs, basketballs, soccer balls, tennis rackets and pedometers. There are also fishing poles, binoculars and Frisbee golf equipment. The items can be checked out for seven days, along with library books on how to use the items.
Several groups and organizations in the area are also taking part in the program such as Ashland Tennis Center, Ashland area YMCA, Highlands Museum & Discovery Center and City of Ashland Parks & Recreation. The Ashland Fire Department will also give tours to families who check out a pass from the library and calls to schedule it.
