Officials say a contractor is dead after an accident at the Harrison Power Station in Haywood.
Area director Prentice Cline of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration confirmed the Wednesday morning fatality and said his agency is responding.
The plant is owned by Ohio-based FirstEnergy.
Spokeswoman Jennifer Young said the victim was a man employed with Burnham Industrial, an insulating company. She could not release his age or hometown but said FirstEnergy extends its sympathy to his family.
Young said FirstEnergy works hard to maintain safe plants and will investigate fully.
Another worker died at the plant less than two years ago, in September 2011. Veteran employee Ned Johnson, 63, of Rivesville, was pinned between a machine and a wall.
The Harrison Power Station currently employs more than 200 people.
