For months, 36-year old Timothy Parsons maintained he was not guilty in the May, 2012 murders of his wife Leigh Anne Kinder-Parsons and her mother Gloria Sue Kinder.

But prosecutors say his story changed when they revealed the evidence they were going to present at his trial, which was scheduled to start today.

Instead of taking his chances with a jury, Parsons pleaded guilty to two counts of first degree murder.

"I think that is what led to this guilty plea," Keith Randolph, Boone County Prosecutor said. "Once the evidence was completely analyzed by the crime lab and the results came in I think that led to this plea."

Parsons admits he got into an argument with his wife in the early morning hours of May 14th, which ended with him stabbing her to death. Hours later, Parsons revealed the crime to his mother-in-law before cutting her throat and killing her.

"Clearly there was no mercy shown to either one of these victims or anybody within that household," Randolph said. "And we feel that the judge should in turn grant no mercy for him."

In exchange for the guilty pleas and the right to argue that Parsons spend the rest of his life behind bars, prosecutors dropped two additional charges of sexual assault and kidnapping, sparing the teenage victim from having to testify about her ordeal.

"It keeps a teenage victim off of the stand so she doesn't have to relive the trauma which is something that was very important in this case and something we spoke to her about at length," Randolph said.

Boone County Circuit Judge William Thompson scheduled Parsons' sentencing for May 1. He is facing a maximum penalty of life in prison without parole, something the prosecutor says he will argue vigorously for.
