A local university is getting funding to help students who are interested in the mining industry.
The National Science Foundation has given Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College in Williamson a grant to develop advanced technical education programs.
The school will receive $892,000 over three years for the Comprehensive Career Pathways and Programs in Coal Mining project.
The money will be used to help students enrolled in electrical engineering technology, mining engineering, mine management and mine technology programs.
