West Virginia State University has opened a food pantry for students on the school's Institute campus.
The pantry opened Monday and will offer food to students in need four days a week.
Kellie Toledo is the director of Counseling and Academic Support Services at the university. She said the pantry is intended to serve "some students who are going without."
The food pantry is open to any current student, staff or faculty member. Those using the pantry must present their university photo ID.
Toledo said some students facing financial challenges can find themselves in short-term crisis situations in which they may not have enough money to buy food for themselves or their children.
The pantry will be supported by donations.
