If your garage or property is starting to look rather unsightly with accumulated junk, you soon will have an opportunity to do some early spring cleaning.
The Spring 2013 Cleanup gets under way in Kanawha County on Saturday with items being accepted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Rehabilitation Center in Institute, Kanawha County officials said.
Other cleanups will be conducted during the same hours at these locations and dates: Elkview Middle School, April 6; Southridge behind Sam’s Club, April 13; and Cabin Creek behind Go-Mart, April 27.
Items being accepted are accumulated solid waste, large appliances, air conditioners and 10 tires with West Virginia identification. Recyclables being accepted are newspapers, junk mail, all metals, car batteries, electronics and plastics.
The following items will not be accepted: gas or propane tanks, hazardous waste (including but not limited to meth-making materials), paint, chemicals and motor oil.
Sponsors of the cleanup are the Kanawha County Commission, West Virginia Division of Environmental Protection and the Kanawha County Solid Waste Authority.
