The Crazy Canes were out in full force, cheering on their beloved Redskins. For the first time in state tournament history, Hurricane is here. "It's a crazy feeling to know that we're on this big stage, Austin Conley, Hurricane High School senior said. "I mean, I never thought in my four years I'd be here. Coach Sutherland's done a great job." "I've been coming to these basketball games since the early 2000s with my sister and my cousin, I've never seen an atmosphere like this," Aaron Persinger, Hurricane High School senior said. "It's ridiculous. This is the best team I've seen in the past decade." The Redskins parlayed a 20-win season into a ticket to the tournament. The school's principal says Hurricane has been re-energized over the past several years in a number of ways, from the court to the classroom. "You know this has been building in every which way, not just basketball," Richard Campbell, Hurricane High School principal said. "These kids have grown with us and if you see by the crowd it's exciting. We had a great week. We had a great pep assembly yesterday. The whole community is just uplifted by this." With thousands of Hurricane fans watching the Redskins battle Beckley, a long-time coach and official says this is a big moment for all Hurricane, both present and past. "Kennie, It's been an unbelievable buzz," Perry Estep, Hurricane High School coach said. "I've been a basketball official for 38 years, around high school athletics my whole life and I've never seen a community come together more than what Hurricane has. With the development of the Crazy Canes, teachers dying their hair pink, everybody going crazy, there's a lot of alumni here." Although Beckley prevailed to win the game, Hurricane's supporters say the team's season was huge success because they're focusing on the journey and not the destination.
