A Huntington man is facing child pornography charges after an investigation which spanned several months.
Jacob A. Wolfe, 28, of Huntington was charged with two counts of child pornography on Wednesday. Troopers said Wolfe was taken into custody while attending a class at Marshall University Wednesday morning. A criminal complaint said Wolfe had downloaded, possessed and identified child pornography.
McKenzie Leffingwell was a student in the class Wednesday morning taking a test. Her professor was Wolfe, also a graduate student. Leffingwell watched with other students as State Police made the arrest.
"We were in class taking our midterm exam and saw two State Troopers standing at the door and said 'Jacob, you're under arrest,'" Leffingwell said. "He just looked stunned and said, 'Can we do it in the hallway?' Then, we heard the trooper say, 'You're under arrest for possession of child pornography.'"
Police had been investigating Wolfe at the Digital Forensics Lab in Huntington.
"Anyone doing this can be found out, we are watching anyone committing these crimes and trying to take care of them as quickly as possible," said Christopher Vance, a digital forensics specialist.
West Virginia State Police Corporal Robert Boggs said authorities take these types of cases seriously.
"If we catch you, you're going to be in a lot of trouble. It's not something to take lightly, very serious charges with very serious implications," Boggs said.
Leffingwell said she and other students in class were shaken up after the arrest.
"After we realized it wasn't a joke, we were shocked and never suspected it from him," Leffingwell said. "It makes me afraid to trust my own teachers."
Wolfe was being held at the Western Regional Jail and bond is set at $100,000.
