A Fayette County man was killed in a single-vehicle accident after the driver lost control and struck a bridge abutment.
Franklin D. Terry, 51, of Danese died in a wreck that occurred about 8 p.m. Sunday on state Route 41 in the Danese area, according to a news release from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department.
The accident occurred when Terry, the driver of the small pickup truck, lost control of his vehicle and it slid more than 100 feet down the roadway before hitting the bridge abutment. When rescue personnel arrived, they discovered the cab and bed of the truck had separated, with the bed of the truck on the roadway, and the cab of the truck over an embankment in a creek.
A large slab of concrete from the bridge had broken loose and was on the roof of the truck cab with the driver trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters from the Danese Volunteer Fire Department were able to remove the driver from the vehicle, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
