A 27-year-old Portsmouth man was killed in a Greenup County collision Sunday afternoon.
The accident took place on U.S. Route 23 at the intersection of the Grant Bridge, according to a news release from Kentucky State Police.
Benjamin R. Johnston was operating a moped traveling southbound on U.S. 23 and attempted to turn left onto the Grant Bridge. Jamie Miller, 44, was traveling northbound on U.S. 23 in a 1998 Ford Explorer. State Police said it appeared Miller failed to stop at the red light at the intersection and struck Johnston.
Drug usage is suspected as a factor in the collision, State Police said.
Johnston was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center and was pronounced dead. Miller and a juvenile passenger, who were wearing seat belts, received no injuries.
