Several West Virginia colleges and universities are getting federal recognition for their community service work.
The 10 schools were among 690 across the country named this week to the 2013 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.
Those recognized in West Virginia were: Bethany College, Fairmont State University, Ohio Valley University, Shepherd University, West Liberty University, West Virginia Northern Community College, West Virginia University, West Virginia University at Parkersburg, West Virginia Wesleyan College and Wheeling Jesuit University.
The annual honor roll was launched in 2006 and is overseen by the Corporation for National and Community Service. Officials say it highlights the role colleges and universities play in solving community problems and placing more students on a lifelong path of civic engagement.
