Two people shot in a massive shootout on Charleston's west side Saturday morning remained in the hospital Sunday. Charleston police said at least 40 shots were fired along Washington Street West just before 4 a.m. Saturday. Two people were hit, and suffered non-life threatening injuries. One of the victims, Andre Williamson has been charged in a separate crime. Once he is released from the hospital, he will be arraigned on a charge of being an accessory after the fact in the killing of David Booker. Booker was killed on Charleston's east end in November. Two people are injured after an early Saturday morning shooting near several West Side businesses. Dispatchers say the shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. Saturday near the Smoke House. Details are still sketchy at this time, but police say two people suffered gunshot wounds to their lower bodies. The crime scene was massive. Forty-plus casings were collected at the scene. Right now, police are unsure of how many people were firing guns and are continuing to sort out the details. The two victims who were shot remain in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police said businesses in the area were hit by some of the bullets, and neighboring houses could possibly find bullet holes as well. The shooting took place in an area of town quite familiar with crime. “It's always down in the lower area, Patrick Street, or up on the hill, Red Oak Street, up in that area,” said west side resident Freida Aldridge. “But nothing close to here. It's been very peaceful until last night." Aldridge has lived in the area for years, and now with the crime right outside her door, she said she's not concerned so much for her safety as she is for the well-being of those involved. "There's so much that goes on in this world, all the crimes,” Aldridge said. “I just hope and pray for the people that are hurt." Police are still searching for those involved in the shooting and have not released a motive, but one of the victims is facing charges in an unrelated case. Andre Williamson, also known as A3, was shot in the leg. He remains in the hospital, but police have charged him with being an accessory after the fact in the killing of David Booker. Booker was killed on Charleston's east end in November. Williamson has a long criminal history, and has been arrested for shootings in the past.
