Friday marks International Women's Day, the annual celebration of women's political, economic and social accomplishments past and present.
Women have made great strides in gaining equality with men.
They take charge of their families, work outside the home and in some cases are the family bread winner.
Women now run companies. Fortune 500 companies with the highest number of women board members were 53 percent more profitable than those with the fewest women.
Women also are living longer than men, on average by five to 10 years.
