Authorities say a northern Kentucky teenager has been charged with second-degree terroristic threatening after allegedly joking about bringing a large firecracker to his school in Lewis County.
Lewis County Deputy Jason Hill told The Ledger Independent that the 17-year-old boy joked last week about bringing an M-80 firecracker to school and throwing it under a table to see what would happen.
Another student overheard the comment and thought the M-80 was a large firearm. The student notified authorities.
Hill says M-80s are illegal to possess.
The deputy says the boy was charged because had he brought the firework to school and ignited it, there would have been a panic and injuries could have occurred.
Hill says the juvenile is being held in the Boyd County Juvenile Detention Center.
