More than 400 people gathered in West Liberty on Saturday to mark the one-year anniversary of the March 2 tornado that ripped through their community, killing seven.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reported residents at the Morgan County High School came together to remember what was lost and those who died while expressing optimism for the future as the county rebuilds.
A memorial service began at 5:47 p.m., the time the tornado first touched down. The program included a video of the devastated downtown and recordings of emergency workers' radio conversations describing the damage.
At the end of the service, volunteers launched red, white and blue memorial lanterns into the sky.
