A homeless man in Huntington now has a place to stay, after a compassionate viewer responds to a story he saw on Eyewitness News.
The viewer, captivated by the story, decided to help a man who has never needed it more.
Dana Nitz has gone from living in a tent on the banks of the Ohio River to the warmth of a home in less than 24 hours.
"It is kind of a shock. It’s amazing how things can change so quick,” Nitz said.
Eyewitness News interviewed Nitz Wednesday while doing a story on a program for the homeless at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena.
Bryant Harshbarger saw the story. He says he had lost touch with his friend, but had no idea he was homeless.
"I couldn't believe my eyes,” Harshbarger said. “It broke my heart to see my best friend out there.”
So Bryant took him in, giving him a home, which he says he hopes will make finding work a little easier.
"It’s so much easier now to be able to get up and get around,” Nitz said. “I won't have to walk in the mud to go out and look for work."
"I tell you, God really answers prayers,” Harshbarger said.
Both are thanking a higher power, as Nitz plans to get back up on his feet.
Nitz and Harshbarger said that, in addition to job hunting, church is also on the agenda.
Nitz also said he has a lot of people he plans on thanking who lended him a helping hand over his time living on the river front.
