Saturday marked the two-year anniversary of the shooting death of a U.S. Marshal, killed in the line of duty.
The community gathered to remember 24-year old Derek Hotsinpiller from Bridgeport. He was shot and killed while serving a warrant on Charles Smith in Elkins.
Smith was also killed, and two other U.S. Marshals were injured.
At Hotsinpiller’s funeral, his family described him as loyal and a true warrior.
Community support has poured out for Hotsinpiller and his family since his death. The Clarksburg Federal Center has been renamed as the Derek W. Hotsinpiller Federal Building. A scholarship fund was also named in honor of Hotsinpiller and his father.
