A frightening day on the tracks in Perry Township in Ohio as a FedEx truck crossing the railroad tracks is hit. The driver is lucky to be alive. But, nearby residents say this isn't the first time there's been a train versus vehicle collision at the crossing.
Wednesday's accident brought back bad memories for Albert Perrock Jr. and his girlfriend Ora Ratliff. Ratliff said, "We pulled up and stopped and he eased up on the tracks by the time we got up to where we can see I was starting at the train."
Perrock said, "That train hit us and took the car all the way around and threw us over the hill on the other side. The car was turned plumb around."
Wednesday's crash happened at the Randall St. crossing, where the southbound side of the tracks you can see only one stop sign. Motorists traveling northbound don't have any warning, no crossing gates, bells or even caution lights.
Spokesperson for Norfolk Southern says the Public Utility Commission of Ohio is responsible for implementing safety devices at railroad crossings. Once those crossings are in place, the railroad is in charge of maintenance.
People who live near the crossing say they hope to see proper warning signs or devices installed immediately, before someone is seriously hurt or killed.
