The pedestrian struck and killed by a train in McDowell County was a 38-year-old male whose identity has not been released pending notification of family, the sheriff's department said.
The incident happened about 7:20 a.m. Thursday in the Mary Town Hunting Shirt Bottom area of McDowell County, according to a news release from the sheriff's department.
A Norfolk Southern spokesman said the pedestrian was struck on a trestle by a train carrying mixed freight that was traveling from Roanoke to Williamson.
The sheriff's department is being assisted by Norfolk Southern police in the investigation.
A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train in McDowell County, the McDowell County Sheriff's Department said.
A spokesman for Norfolk Southern said the incident occurred about 7:15 a.m. Friday on a trestle northwest of Welch.
The spokesman said the pedestrian was struck by a train carrying mixed freight that was traveling from Roanoke to Williamson.
