U.S Sens. Jay Rockefeller and Joe Manchin have announced more than $108,000 in federal funding for three West Virginia fire departments to purchase safety equipment and strengthen training and wellness programs.
The Fort Ashby Volunteer Fire Company received $69,900 in funds. The Kenova Volunteer Fire Department received $29,811 and $8,312 was awarded to the Ceredo Volunteer Fire Department.
"West Virginia's firefighters are quick to protect our families and neighbors no matter the emergency," Rockefeller said in a news release. "This award will not only provide essential safety equipment, but will also give departments an opportunity to purchase equipment for wellness and fitness programs, and provide top-notch professional training for our first responders. These tools will further equip our firefighters to protect us and keep our families safe around the clock."
The funding helps departments obtain emergency vehicles, protective equipment, and other supplies. The funding comes from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency .
