It's been nine years since the town of Ceredo has had a grocery store, but this week Food Fair announced it will open it's doors in the Ceredo Plaza.
Veronica Hale works at Java Joe's in the Ceredo Plaza and knows first hand how the strip mall is suffering. "It's empty, I mean empty. There are very few stores open, everybody's moved or gone out of business."
But news of Food Fair coming to town is a positive change. Hale said, "It'll bring a whole lot more business. We lost a lot since CVS has relocated to Kenova."
Last year, CVS pulled out of the Plaza a moved to Kenova where recent growth includes a new environmentally green Taco Bell off the interstate exit. Now, there's talk of building a hotel and visitor's center. But it's the grocery store the community says it's needed for years.
Mayor Otis Adkins said, "We either had to go to Kentucky or Ohio or Huntington so we're just real excited about getting a grocery store here in town."
The new store will bring 40 jobs and plans to open in May.
