A man in Athens County, Ohio, was charged after deputies said he stabbed a pit bull during a domestic dispute.
Charles D. Dearth, 29, of Millfield was charged Monday with cruelty to animals and burglary. Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly said the suspect claimed he was attacked by the dog Saturday and received injuries to his hand, arms and stomach. Deputies said the suspect claimed to be in an argument with his girlfriend at her house when the dog attacked him and he had to stab it with a kitchen knife three times.
Deputies later learned that the suspect allegedly broke into the home the night before, and the residents in the home were afraid to call police, Kelly said. While investigating, deputies said they discovered on the suspect's Facebook page that he wanted to hurt the dog, and it was not showing aggression toward him when he stabbed it.
Dearth is scheduled to appear Tuesday in Athens County Municipal Court.
