West Virginia University has received a $100,000 donation to create an accounting position in the College of Business and Economics.
WVU said Monday the gift will fund the David W. and Nancy F. Hamstead Dean's Professorship for Accounting.
Dean Jose Sartarelli said it will help attract more academic talent.
WVU's business school is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Less than 5 percent of the world's 13,000 business programs are accredited, and only 178 have additional specialized accreditation for accounting.
WVU is one of them, and has been since 1997.
David Hamstead is retired from Price Waterhouse LLP and has served on the school's visiting committee and the WVU Foundation Board of Directors.
Nancy Hamstead is a former speech pathologist and Blaney House visiting committee member.
