Several families in Roane County spent one of the coldest nights of the year without heat.
When Rebecca Lesher woke up Saturday morning, her gas was shut off – without any notice.
"And I said 'You don't have to tell anybody?' I said 'My house is 60 degrees,' I said 'My water pipes will freeze off,'" said Lesher, “[The Mountaineer Gas rep] said 'No ma'am, we don't have to tell nobody.'"
James Chandler’s gas was also unexpectedly shut off early Saturday morning. He says it’s not a matter of being prepared. It’s about being made aware.
Mountaineer Gas says the problem isn’t their fault, but they stepped in to fix the situation.
Mountaineer is the provider in the area, but the company says a third part actually supplies the gas. It was the third party that was having problems.
"When there is no flow of gas going through the pipes from our third party producer,” said Moses Skaff of Mountaineer Gas, “We cannot supply the gas to our customers and goes off without any notice unfortunately."
As soon as Mountaineer Gas found out about the outage, the company went to the area to get the gas, and heat, back on.
