West Virginia State Police said it found 139 violations when it did a sex offender compliance sweep in multiple counties. State Police said 485 sex offenders were contacted and verified during the sweep that was conducted Monday through Wednesday in an area that includes Kanawha, Putnam, Wood, Ritchie, Wirt, Pleasants, Clay, Roane, Calhoun, Mason, and Jackson. There were 101 investigations generated during the sweep, and 14 people were arrested. State Police said there are warrants being obtained for 97 pending arrests. State Police said the following were arrested on these charges during the sweep: Frank D. Walker of Nitro, citation for simple possession; Michael C. McKinney of Nitro, citation for simple possession; Howard Justice of Dunbar, possession of marijuana and obstructing; Matthew Marion Williams of St. Albans, second-offense driving under the influence; Anthone L. Flippen of Dunbar, failure to register; William R. Ratliff of South Charleston, failure to register; Rodney W. Johnson of Elkview, two counts of failure to register; Robert Henline of Ritchie County, four counts of felon in possession of firearm; Shawn Gray of Wood County, one count of failure to register and parole violation; Joseph Durrette of Wood County, one count of failure to register; Jackie Goodman of Wood County, one count of failure to register; and Buddy Arthur of Wood County, one count of failure to register.
