An Athens County, Ohio, woman had to be rescued after trying unsuccessfully to save a dog that had fallen in a well.
Emergency crews responded to a cistern located near the woman's home on State Route 33 just outside of Athens about noon Thursday, Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly said. Kelly said the woman repelled down 25 feet into the cistern in an attempt to rescue the dog that had fallen in, and both could not get out. The well was filled with about 10 feet of water.
The Richland Fire Department was able to remove the woman and the dog. Neither needed medical attention.
