A West Virginia inmate serving a life sentence for killing his father pleaded guilty for his involvement in a Kentucky murder.
Shane T. Elkins of Wayne County pleaded guilty in Morgan Circuit Court in Kentucky on Monday. Elkins was charged for his role in the murder of Michael Dean Bartley of Ezel, Ky. in January 1998, according to a news release from Kentucky State Police. Investigators received information in August 2011 that suggested Elkins and his father, Melvin Elkins, were involved in Bartley's murder.
Elkins was already serving a life sentence at West Virginia's Mount Olive Correctional Complex for the 2007 murder of his father.
Elkins was extradited to Kentucky in August 2012 to stand trial for Bartley's murder. Elkins will be sentenced Feb. 25.
