The Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University has received a $500,000 donation from the Huntington Foundation Inc.
The school was given the donation to create The Huntington Foundation Inc./Frank E. Hanshaw Sr. Endowed Chair of Geriatrics, according to a news release from Marshall University. The West Virginia Research Trust Fund, or Bucks for Brains, is expected to match the gift, bringing the total to $1 million for Marshall.
The hope is that the school can do research on diseases and the aging process of the elderly community.
