An electrical problem has left the West Virginia Veterans Memorial at the Capitol Complex in the dark.
The memorial's floodlights and walkway lights have been out for some time.
Department of Administration spokeswoman Diane Holley-Brown told the Charleston Daily Mail that the memorial's electrical panel and circuit appear to be susceptible to rainwater leaking. But it's difficult to determine the problem because the panel is located in a confined space.
She said the Division of General Services plans to hire a contractor to evaluate the problem.
South Charleston resident William Belcher said a parking lot behind the memorial is no longer illuminated because of the problem. He believes that's a safety hazard.
The 69-year-old Air Force veteran also said the darkened memorial is disrespectful to veterans.
