Kanawha Metro 911 reported that a tractor-trailer jackknifed on Interstate 64 westbound between the Montrose and Oakwood road exits. A dispatcher said the accident happened about 1:30 p.m. at the 57-mile marker. The dispatcher said one person was transported to the hospital. Multiple accidents were being reported throughout the area due to icy conditions. Dispatchers said there have been about 50 wrecks in Kanawha County since noon. Putnam County had eight accidents in the same time period. Huntington Police are urging motorists to avoid I-64 between Milton and the Ceredo-Kenova area at all costs. Police estimate 60 wrecks have happened on that stretch of interstate. The police department is asking drivers to slow down and to take an alternate route of I-64. It is unknown if injuries have been reported. The snow blanketing the region was causing slick driving conditions and multiple accidents. Kanawha Metro 911 reported it had 25 to 30 active accidents as of about 1 p.m. Friday. A dispatcher said there were no major accidents and only minor injuries had been reported. Meanwhile, a Cabell County 911 dispatcher said there had been a number of accidents. The dispatcher said there was an accident on westbound Interstate 64 near the 5 1/2 mile marker. No details about that accident were available. In Lincoln County, dispatchers were urging motorists to use caution on Route 10 in West Hamlin, where conditions were reported to be very hazardous. At 1:15 p.m., the West Virginia Department of Transportation's 511 website had accidents listed for Interstate 64 eastbound, westbound, Interstate 77 southbound and northbound and Interstate 79 northbound.
