It was a meeting open to the public and many Sissonville residents attended, including the McMillions, who wanted more information about the pipeline explosion after they lost their home to the flames last December. "There would have been no injury. There would have been no escaping had anyone been home," said Shirley McMillion, a Sissonville resident, "We were very, very fortunate that no one was killed at our house." Shirley McMillion was one of several residents expressing concerns at a town hall meeting in Sissonville Wednesday evening. State Senator Chris Walters and Delegate Ron Walters hosted the meeting to discuss many topics. But the biggest issue, pipeline explosion in December. "People here are rightfully concerned about the pipeline," said Del. Ron Walters, "They've had two disasters in the last ten years. And the one most recently was a scary as could be." Earlier in the day, the Government Accountability Office released a report on pipeline safety. The two major concerns were recording response time and the need for automatic shut off valves, which is something Del. Walters fully supports. "Those are critically important. We have them in other areas, water, for example, in a pipe it automatically shuts off. There's no reason we shouldn't have those in this situation also." The report also said had automatic shutoff valves been in place the damage would not have been so severe. Something that could have saved McMillion's home among other things. "It was completely demolished along with two cars, a jetski, and several other things that were outside," said McMillion, "My car literally melted." Mcmillion knows she is fortunate and hopes no one will ever have to go through something similar. "I want to do anything I can do to make sure this doesn't happen again."
